What's Right For You ?

Your Life Style will Follow You to Retirement

Retirement, the time to live the adventure and do the things you have been planning for years. In some cases a person's life follows what they said they were going to do. The reality of retirement is that the life habits you had when you were working will follow into those glorious retirement years.

I have seen many people predict what they were going to do and in more cases than not their life really didn't change a lot. If a person travelled and vacationed while they were working it is probable that in the retirement years they will do the same. If that person saved and didn't do any travelling or any special hobbies then I guarantee that they will probably be living the same life style into the retirement years.

Some things to consider before you retire:

  • Do you have any hobbies? If work is your only hobby, then retirement will offer you times of bordom and restlessness.
  • Do you now travel? Chances are if you don't travel much the same will apply to your later years.
  • How is you and your significant others health? You may not be able to do things later, so it is a good time to do a little now and not bet the bank on the future.
  • Of course money is a major consideration but remember to get advise from a financial advisor if you aren't sure.
  • Are your health care needs covered into retirement? Always check your health care coverage when you retire.
  • Are you physically and mentally active? Remember " If you don't use it you'll lose it".

Taking all of the above into consideration, what do you need to do so you don't fall into the retirement you didn't intend?

Some possible solutions could be:

  • Do volunteer work. Many people have found fulfilment helping people . Use your skills to make a difference in someones life.
  • Join a health club or fitness centre to help you recover the slowly decreasing muscle mass.
  • Try taking a part time job on something you always wanted to do. Remember in todays work place your work habits could be a wonderful model for the younger generation to learn.
  • Try travelling but don't jump into a world tour to see how you like it.

This might seem overwelhming but remember, it only takes little steps at a time to move forward.

Look into your lifestyle, what do you feel and think about the path that you are on? If it's not what you want you can make those possitive changes now.

Remember whatever your retirement goals are, that there are many resources out there. Financial Advisors, Health Care Advisors and Life Syle Management Coaches can all give you the advise you may need to find out " What's Right For You".
